Omote gae (Re-covering)
When the surface of the tatami becomes split finely, frayed, or overall damaged, the process of replacing the "tatami omote" (tatami cover) and "tatami heri" (tatami edge) with new ones while leaving the tatami base as is is called “omote gae".
There are two types of tatami omote: "Igusa" (rush grass) and "colored".
New Tatami
New tatami is the replacement of tatami mats with new tatami mats from the tatami toko (tatami base). If your tatami mats has been used for more than 15 years or if it is soft and fluffy, it may be time to replace it. Please feel free to contact us for a tatami diagnosis. There are two types of new tatami: “edgeless tatami” and “tatami with edges”. Please consult us at the time of estimate.
Uragasehi (Turning over)
The tatami omote (tatami cover) and tatami toko (tatami base) of the existing tatami will be reused. However, as for “Tatami omote”, it will be removed from the "tatami toko" once, and the side of the tatami that has not yet seen the light of day will be made into the surface and reattached to the "tatami toko".
The tatami heri (tatami edges) will be replaced with a new one, so please choose one.
